Mauritius has a way of slowing everything down. A villa or resort here should feel the same.

Think of the light over the lagoon, planting that grows right up to the windows, and evenings that stretch out on a shaded terrace. The best interiors on the island are calm, open to the outdoors and made to cope with the climate.

Whether you are looking for an interior designer in Mauritius for a family villa, a holiday home or a boutique resort, here is how we approach interior design in Mauritius, and the villa renovation our team is designing there now.

01 · Project spotlight

Villa Vista A El Oceano: a family villa renovation

This island home is being renovated for a client who first worked with us in Dubai, and who asked us to bring the same calm and care to their villa in Mauritius.

In August 2026, our team travelled to the island to walk the site, meet the local teams and see the light and planting first hand. The bathrooms and powder room are the first spaces to be designed in detail, each one planned as part of the whole villa. See the project.

The feeling of a resort, in a home that is entirely your own.

02 · Resort calm, at home

Bathrooms as private retreats

On an island, the bathroom is where a villa comes closest to a spa. We plan each one around the view: freestanding baths beneath garden windows, walk-in showers behind clear glass, and generous vanities with space to set things down.

03 · The climate

Designing for island living

A beautiful interior has to stay beautiful. In Mauritius, that means designing for the climate from the very first sketch.

Humidity & sea air

Natural stone, solid timber and quality fittings, with finishes that are sealed, durable and easy to care for.

Sun & light

Soft blinds and sheer layers that filter the glare, pale floors that stay cool underfoot, and views kept wide open.

Breeze & air

Louvred timber doors and open plans that let air move through the home, the way island houses always have.

04 · Materials

A palette drawn from the island

Pale, calm surfaces let the planting outside take the lead, with deep green stone bringing the colour of the garden indoors.

  • Deep green marble
  • Pale natural stone
  • Light timber
  • Fluted panelling
  • Textured plaster
  • Brushed metal

One room where the mood turns dark. In the powder room, textured charcoal walls, a solid marble basin and a warm line of concealed light create a small moment of drama, with a glimpse of the garden through the glass.

05 · Hospitality

Resort interiors in Mauritius

The same principles shape the hospitality spaces we design. Across the Indian Ocean, our team is also developing a hospitality and community concept in Zanzibar, from the arrival lobby to the restaurant and wellness spaces.

For a resort or boutique hotel in Mauritius, we begin with four questions.

  1. 01

    How does arrival feel?

The first few minutes set the tone for the whole stay.

  2. 02

    Where is the view?

Every room planned to open towards the lagoon, garden or sky.

  3. 03

    Will it weather beautifully?

Materials that look better with time, and are easy for teams to care for.

  4. 04

    Does it feel like Mauritius?

Local craft, art and planting, so guests know exactly where they are.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need an interior designer based in Mauritius?

Not necessarily. Our team designs from Dubai, visits site and works closely with local contractors and suppliers. Online platforms let you follow every stage, and our detailed drawings mean the design can be built with precision on the island.

Will my villa end up looking like a Dubai villa?

Only if you want it to. Our style is warm, calm and built around natural materials, but every home is shaped by its setting, its light and the way you live.

Do you design resort and hotel interiors?

Yes. Alongside private homes, we design hospitality and commercial interiors, from arrival spaces and restaurants to guest rooms and wellness areas.

Which materials work best in Mauritius?

Natural stone, solid timber and well-made fittings, sealed and finished for humidity and sea air. We specify every material for the setting, and send samples so you can see and touch each one first.
